Robert Pattinson is a lot adventurous. For his most up-to-date run of public outings, to advertise The Batman, he broke out large coats that cloaked his lithe body, Darkish Knight-style, and he even made a case for XXL cargo shorts. (You may say the adventures began along with his March 2022 GQ cover, which concerned a full-on dye-and-grills transformation.)
Now the British star has taken issues up one other degree. Attending the Dior present in Paris (he is an envoy for the model) he stole the gazes of trend editors, TikTokers, and the sixteenth arrondissement’s high spenders alike when he turned up in a fuzzy chocolate-brown fleece and a blue tweed skirt. Or, uh, shorts and a skirt frontage (name it a skort?). It was one of many boldest clothes he is worn so far—no small declare with regards to Pattinson.
Now, whereas this is perhaps his first time in a skirt, Pattinson isn’t the first male celebrity to become familiar with the leg-flashing garment traditionally related to womenswear. Kurt Cobain was at it within the ‘90s, and Vin Diesel sported a leather-based skirt to the MTV Europe Music Awards in Edinburgh in 2003 (Google it!). And it appears more and more clear that we’ve entered a new era for the dude skirt. Pete Davidson is a kind of guys, sporting one to the Met Gala. A$AP Rocky will get his from Givenchy. Oscar Isaac is an advocate for a pleated Thom Browne quantity, whereas Kid Cudi acquired Twitter speaking when he turned as much as a New York Metropolis gallery opening in a black chiffon skirt.
The skirt is now talking to much more males, and in ways in which really feel nearly—refreshingly—mundane. Take, as an example, the boys’s Autumn/Winter 2023 exhibits at the moment happening in Europe. Skirts are the operating thread. Martine Rose set the wheels in movement when she guest-closed Pitti Uomo with a catwalk assortment brimming with males in denim, floor-length skirts. British designer Charles Jeffrey Loverboy despatched male fashions strolling in tartan kilts and wraparound felt skirts. Etro confirmed long-length tartan skirts with outsized rugby shirts, whereas at Gucci (which has been pushing skirts and robes for males since 2015) side-split skirts had been worn with polo shirts. And certainly, Pattinson’s skirt is a carbon copy of one of many items seen on the Dior catwalk—Kim Jones despatched greater than ten of his fashions strutting down the catwalk in them.
Which makes this a lot clear: cool as it’s, Pattinson in a skirt is not even that huge a deal.
